Feeling Good with Flowers
We are constantly searching for better health and contentment in our lives. We try the newest exercises and look for the cure-all drug, hoping they will make us healthy and happy. Sometimes, the simplest things in life can fulfill our pursuit of happiness and help us achieve good health. Flowers have always been a powerful influence in human health and happiness.
Having flowers in the work environment is a very important factor which contributes to many health benefits. If housework can become more enjoyable due to fresh flowers wafting through the air, plants and flowers in the workplace would do the same. The smell of fresh flowers triggers a comforting zone within the brain, therefore removing some of the stresses of the day. According to business experts, a strategic way to gain the competitive edge in the modern economy is to understand how to keep a happy and productive workforce.
Research was done at Texas A&M University that showed by simply adding flowers or plants to a work space, employees’ within the surrounding area had improved their productivity. Another study done by Virginia Lohr and colleagues at Washington State university found that people in a room in which plants had been added improved their computer task reaction time by 12% and showed signs of being less stressed.
Recent research confirms that flowers might be the perfect for those who do not consider themselves “morning people”. Consumers that place a fresh bouquet of flowers in their work space reported being happier and more energetic after looking at the flowers first thing in the morning. The bouquet also caused them to feel less anxious and more compassionate. They even reported a boost of energy that lasted through their day.
